Fire & Rescue

Fire and rescue needs in the Wausaukee area is a volunteer based service by the Wausaukee Rescue Squad and the Wausaukee Fire District.

Wausaukee Rescue Squad
A volunteer organization with approximately 13 members, the Wausaukee Rescue Squad operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Fielding two ambulances, each with a driver and two licensed Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT’s), the rescue squad handles roughly 300 medical and trauma calls per year.

Covering a service area approximately 466 square miles (the largest coverage area in Marinette County), the rescue squad is all terrain capable and works jointly with the fire department for water rescue and as a backup unit if needed.

The rescue squad also provides medical transport to area hospitals in Iron Mountain, Michigan in the North, Marinette, Green Bay, Oconto, Oconto Falls, as well as the VA Hospitals.

Wausaukee Fire District
The Wausaukee Fire District in an inter-governmental entity jointly operated between the Township and Village of Wausaukee. With about 20 members, the fire district is small boat capable for water and ice rescue, small incident hazmat response, heavy rescue with the Jaws of Life, off road capable for hunting and snow mobile calls, and works jointly with the Rescue Squad. The Fire District’s service area approximately 90 square miles, serving about 1,700 full time residents.
